Dalwhinnie is a distillery in the Highland region of Scotland but there are some who argue that it is located in the Speyside region. Situated on the western end of Cairngorms National Park, Dalwhinnie is one of the highest elevated distilleries in all of Scotland. Though they produce some quality single malts, the majority of their production is sold and used in various blends, Black & White most famously. The distillery was founded in 1897 under the name Strathspey but after some start up problems the ownership changed hands and adopted the name Dalwhinnie in 1898. Too put the time period in perspective, that is the same year Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders were catapulting to international fame for their role in the Spanish American War. What's the point you ask? Dalwhinnie has been around for a long time and have really perfected the process of making a good whisky. Also of note, in 1905 the distillery was sold to an American company, Cook & Bernheimer from New York which made Dalwhinnie the 1st foreign owned Scottish distillery.
