Q: Why do you call this section Burning Questions instead of FAQ like normal people?
A: Let me start off by being honest. You're reading this, but you're one of a few. FAQ would indicate that there were questions that were actually frequently asked. We all know that's not true. As for why I chose "Burning Questions", it's kind of a play on how people say whiskey burns. And because Jim can be a genius. Q: How do you drink your scotch / whisky / whiskey? A: With our mouths. Q: Don't be smart. You know what we mean... A: If you are referring to whether we drink it neat, on the rocks, or with water then generally speaking we'll drink it neat. Infrequently we will add a few drops of water. Q: But no ice? A: No. You are an idiot if you add ice. Seriously. No one in their right mind adds ice. Q: Oh....... I, uh, see... Well- A: Just kidding. There is no wrong way to drink it. If you like ice: add it. If you like those whiskey stone things: cool, use them. Enjoying your drink is what is really important. Q: What about glassware. Do you have one of those fancy glasses? A: Yes. The Glencairn glass is great. It's great for getting a better feel for the nose of the whisky. When we first started getting serious about tasting we used different glasses. We've used smaller brandy snifters. We've also used rocks glasses / tumblers that came with a bottle of Dalmore I once bought. Also I will fluted glass that came with a bottle of Glenmorangie. My favorite is the Glencairn glass, however. Q: Do you really smell and taste those things you describe? A: Yes. Really. It's strange to us, to. At one point we would have laughed at that, too. But using other references we gradually began to pick out flavors and aromas that once we couldn't fathom. Q: What's your favorite? A: That's incredibly hard to answer. I don't know that I have a favorite. If I had to choose a single brand, I couldn't. My top 3 are Talisker, Highland Park, and Balvenie. -J A: I echo Jim's response that this is a very difficult question. I really enjoy the Octomore 6.1 but I'll follow Jim's lead with my favorite brands. They would be Ardbeg, Balvenie and Dalmore. Q: Can you explain your rating scale? A: It's pretty simple. 0.0 - 10.0. I don't think we've every had a 0. But even the whiskeys we've not like at all still have a place in our hearts. I think anything above a 5 is worth trying. I'd say 7 & above are worth buying.
