Another rare blend that we were lucky enough to sample. This one is the top of the line for Compass Box. The story we were told goes something like this...Owner and founder of Compass Box John Glaser was approached with an offer to buy a barrel of blended whiskey. The catch was that they didn't know what it was a blend of and that they didn't know how long it aged. What they did know is that it was re-barreled and aged again for 33 years. Intrigued, he purchased the barrel. At a later point he was approached with another offer. This offer was just like the first except that the whiskey had been re-barreled and aged again but this time for 40 years! Put those two barrels together and you have The General. Needless to say, this is a a once in a lifetime type of scotch! Jim was so moved by this one that he forgot to record his tasting notes! Needless to say, he loved it!
Jim: "I absolutely love this scotch!" Matt: Color: Deep amber Nose: Maple syrup, honey suckle, coconut, rich chocolate Palate: Oak, burnt wood, cinnamon, green apples, anise and some heat Finish: Lots of burn yet well balanced 9.5 Price: $279.22 Q: Is it worth it? A: Yes, yes and yes! If you happen to stumble across a bottle it is well worth the steep price!
